Industry, buildings, money: things are going well in Wackersberg

The Wackersberger seem to be satisfied with the work of their mayor and the administration.

There were hardly any points of criticism at the citizens' meeting.

Childcare will be a major topic for the future.

Wackersberg

– It was the first town hall meeting that Jan Göhzold was able to hold since taking office in 2020.

But the mayor seems to have found a connection to the Wackersbergers in other ways.

Because only about 50 listeners found themselves in the "Altwirt" - including employees of the municipality, the building yard and the municipal councils.

The fact that the native Saxon gets along well with the Bavarian style was also proven before his annual report.

He simply feels at home in Bavaria, he admitted, which earned him benevolent nods from those present.

Twice as many deaths as in previous years

Göhzold started with some numbers.

In 2021 there were 41 deaths in Wackersberg.

"That's almost twice as many as in previous years." He was not able to determine exactly whether this was related to Corona, "but everyone can think for themselves".

Last year there was a veritable boom in new business registrations.

"We are well positioned and crisis-proof."

The community had also been very active in construction.

It was possible to reduce the water loss, which was still 22.6 percent in 2016, to 2.8 percent now through "a lot of effort and various construction measures".

“Less water is pumped, although more is used.

I think we can be measured by that.”

Financially, the community is still very solid, as reported.

"Most of the people here are not doing badly," said Göhzold, who gave an overview of the numbers.

It wasn't just savings.

The multi-generation house was a major construction project in recent years, in which life together has worked well.

"People help each other, communication is good." The age structure also lives up to the name.

A lot has been done for the children.

The Arzbach kindergarten was renovated and converted for a total of around one million euros.

At the elementary school, laptops and tablets were purchased for homeschooling, which are still in use, as well as digital whiteboards.

As reported, further measures are planned for this summer.

Göhzold reported that not many took part in a needs survey among parents.

But the crèche and kindergarten are full, and 28 children are currently attending lunchtime care.

"So the need is there."

With a view to the all-day support law, according to which from 2026 all first graders and then more and more grades are entitled to all-day care, Göhzold said: "Sure, we need childcare places.

But that works somehow.

The problem is that we have no staff.” It is already difficult to find childcare workers.

A lot of money for broadband expansion

Otherwise, the community had invested heavily in broadband expansion.

"We've just noticed right now how necessary a good connection is." In addition, after several years of construction, the gymnasium in Arzbach could finally be opened.

"I hope that it will be well used and cared for." Also in Arzbach, all plots of the new development area on Waxensteinstrasse are now inhabited.

41 Ukrainian refugees are currently living in Wackersberg, in 14 private accommodations.

"It works really well, I looked at some accommodations." The Ukrainians are fully integrated.

He praised the willingness to help, "anyone who still has living space is welcome to contact us or the district office directly".

It was an "impressive report", praised District Administrator Josef Niedermaier: "You listed all the things, but there was actually a lot more to do in the past three years." You constantly had to adapt to new measures and guidelines.

"There is often too much bureaucracy," he criticized, also with regard to the Ukraine crisis.

With the All-Day Funding Act and the sealing of areas, other major issues would come up for the municipalities.

“One will have to ask oneself: How is the village developing?

How do you create affordable housing?” But he sees Wackersberg as well equipped for the future.

"Thank you that your structures still work so well."
