This May brings almost April weather: After storms, warm days followed recently, but the last few days until June are supposed to be autumnally cool.

Munich – With the current summery warm weather it is over for the time being.

Instead, a touch of autumn is coming for the weekend from Saturday (May 28th).

There is even a risk of ground frost locally.

The changeable, cool weather is expected to remain until Tuesday (May 31).

Weather at the end of May 2022: Cooling down due to cold polar air

So far it has been a relatively changeable summer with severe storms – which, after heat waves in July and August, will continue through the rest of the summer, according to the forecast.

Currently, however, one could look forward to a few calm and warm days.

However, the weather is expected to cool down significantly in the last few days of May.

The cause of cooling, wind and showers is the cold polar air that flows through Germany from the north.

The German Weather Service (DWD) predicted maximum temperatures of 13 degrees on the coasts and 19 degrees in the south for Saturday and Sunday.

According to the DWD, fresh, sometimes stormy winds from the north make it appear even cooler than the thermometer shows.

At night, temperatures can drop into the single digits.

Ground frost is possible both in the Alps and in the middle of the country.

Severe weather conditions at the end of May: After a mixed Saturday, a cool Sunday is probably imminent

Saturday seems more suitable for activities than Sunday.

Because on Saturday there is a chance that the sun will appear between clouds and showers from time to time.

Sunday is expected to be wetter and cooler, but the south could remain a little drier and a little warmer than the rest of Germany.

From Wednesday - the first day of June and thus the meteorological beginning of summer - improvement is in sight, according to the DWD.

Overall, however, there is still a risk of rain in June, before July and August of this year will become drier and hotter.
