"I remember the first time I saw her at the breeding farm eight years ago. When I hugged her, my hands were brownish secretions, because I got her vaginal outlet. Later, I took her to see the doctor, and the doctor said that she should be After the miscarriage, the ear was inflamed again, the skin all over the body, and the surrounding bites were rotten and sunburned. Dog playing with paper cups.

Pearl Pearl's black and white hair is very special. He grew up in a dog farm since he was a child, but he was regarded as a breeding machine.

The breeding farm later wanted to abandon the puppy after the uterus prolapsed and nearly died from overfertility.

Debbie, who has always liked small animals, heard the news from the volunteers, and took Pearl Pearl home: "I originally thought about living in temporary care, but slowly I found that she had no confidence in people, and after a while, she felt that she wanted her again. It seems so difficult to adapt to the new housing business, so it is finally nationalized!”

Debbie said with a smile that the whole family cherishes the new member, "My mother loves Xiqu, and even cooks fish maw for her to eat!" (Photo provided by MWYO)

A new home in the dark

The tormented Pearl meets a new owner and a new home in the dark.

Debbie said with a smile that the whole family cherishes this new member, "My mother loves tin canal, she even cooks fish maw for food!" When it comes to pet dogs, Debbie always squints and smiles.

The abandoned dog from the former breeding farm has gradually recovered under the careful care of the Debbie family.

But Debbie described Pearl Pearl as always "stunning". In order to make it "scare the world", Debbie, a social worker, occasionally brought this furry boy to attend different events, and accidentally discovered its potential, she recalled. : "Once when I was talking about Talk, when he saw a child shouting, he walked away and licked people. I have never seen him licking people, and I didn't understand. Later, with the encouragement of my teacher, I asked Pearl Pearl to try to scare people. The purpose of the therapy dog assessment is to provide systematic training and certification for therapy dogs and dog owners, so that participants can bring care and enhance the sense of connection to the society through volunteering with their pets. Only by passing the international standard therapy dog examination can they officially become a certified animal-assisted therapy dog team, and the examination and certification qualification must be renewed every year.

After multiple examinations, Pearl Pearl was transformed into a professional therapy dog.

The owner, Debbie, also jumped out of the comfort zone and established the Hong Kong Animal Assisted Therapy Association in 2013 to introduce animal assisted therapy to marginalized teenagers, children and groups in need. Growth: "In the past few years, I have also seen that Pearl Pearl has experienced trauma, and its anxious personality is very similar to my Clients. When she and I did it together, she was really good, just To help some Clients who may be anxious, nervous, or have little confidence in others, I have seen them grow together!"

Animal-assisted therapy is mainly through allowing clients to get along with animals, so that they can learn more communication skills.

For example, Debbie pointed out that many people are excited when they see puppies and want to hug them, but some animals are very wary of strangers, so we can communicate with animals through other methods, such as petting.

The ultimate goal of therapy is to bring out more people-to-people skills and concepts through interaction with animals.

Animal-assisted therapy can also combine different techniques, such as speech therapy, psychotherapy, etc., to achieve more in-depth results.

The repeated epidemic has forced the work of animal-assisted treatment to be suspended. Debbie also lamented that many pet owners have become restless due to the changes in the epidemic prevention policy.

The repeated outbreak of the epidemic has forced the suspension of treatment work

In Debbie's eyes, Pearl Pearl is not only a pet, but also a colleague and a family member. She is also very grateful to this delicate "house and enterprise person" who has always been brave, gave silently, and helped the people around her grow up.

It is a pity that in the past two years, the epidemic has been repeated, and many treatment work that requires "face-to-face" has been forced to be suspended.

Debbie found that the ongoing epidemic has caused many teenagers to experience anxiety and depression and resist going back to school.

When the epidemic eased a little last year, colleagues from the association continued to work hard to support students in need, but the new wave of epidemic made all previous efforts in vain. Debbie sighed: "Many students are making good progress, and suddenly they are in the first place. Five waves of the epidemic have struck, and work has been forced to suspend, and I believe a lot of treatment work will have to be done again.”

The raging epidemic has made the plan less than expected. Although the association is facing many challenges, she is also anxious due to the change in the epidemic prevention policy: "Especially when it was said earlier that hamsters would be infected, everyone started to worry and panic. Infections have to be quarantined, so the animals in the house and enterprise are counted? So they spend a lot of time to stabilize their mood.”

In Debbie's eyes, Pearl Pearl is not only a pet, but also a colleague and a family member. She is also very grateful that this fur boy has always been brave and dedicated to helping the people around him grow up.

Life always comes and goes, in the limited memory, what will you choose to remember?

In early January this year, a case of Delta virus was confirmed in a pet shop in Causeway Bay. The government announced the culling of hamsters in all pet shops in Hong Kong, and advised the public to send hamsters purchased after December 22 last year to humane destruction.

Some parents reluctantly sent their pets away to prevent the infection, while their sons burst into tears in front of the camera.

Debbie said that he has always heard many stories about the separation of owners and pets. After all, pets have a much shorter lifespan than humans. Saying goodbye to pets is something every breeder will experience.

Seeing Pearl Pearl getting older and showing signs of aging, Debbie also mused: "Every time it's hard to tie it up, it's actually very uncomfortable to face the pet's discomfort and leaving. But I'll be fine all day long. Thank you. After spending time together, sometimes I think that life always comes and goes, whether it is human or animal, why should we choose to remember with limited memory? Someone will remember My own shortcomings and the tragic scene when the pet left, I think it's so unfair, so I will choose to remember the scene where we are happy together."

Sometimes life and death, under the epidemic, we have more reflection on death; facing the departure of loved ones, sadness is a matter of course, but it does not mean that we must be deeply immersed in sadness all the time, the important thing is to learn to embrace memory, timely Show your love and keep going.

The anti-epidemic concern group of the four social work student groups shuttled to the old district of To Kwa Wan to support the confirmed households in subdivided housing. The epidemic made the parent-child relationship tense. : The learning atmosphere of make-up exercises is not as good as before
