The Russian Foreign Ministry declared five diplomats from the Croatian embassy in Moscow persona non grata, as a response to similar behavior from the capital, Zagreb.
"In response to the unfriendly steps taken earlier by Zagreb to reduce the number of diplomatic staff at the Russian embassy there, the Croatian ambassador, Tomislav Tsar, was handed today a note declaring five diplomats from the Croatian embassy in Moscow persona non grata," the TASS news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement. .
The ministry added that "Ambassador Tsar received a strong protest against the unjustified actions taken by the Croatian authorities by blaming Russia for the Ukrainian crisis, in addition to providing assistance to the Nazi regime in Kyiv."
On April 11, the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the expulsion of 24 diplomats from the Russian embassy in the capital, Zagreb, under the pretext of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
