At the Catholic Day in Stuttgart, Chancellor Olaf Scholz – a Protestant who has left the church – finds sharp words for Russian President Putin and his Ukraine war.
Stuttgart – "Putin's war is directed against a peace order that arose from the commitment 'never again' after two devastating world wars." from the mouth of a German chancellor considered a particularly harsh judgment: with the accusation of acting against the basis of all political values in Germany.
“This war is affecting the whole world.
The consequences will be felt, for example when it comes to food security, when it comes to the question of the prices of vital energy supplies.
Putin must not get away with his cynical, inhumane war,” Scholz continued.
Judging by the applause, the Chancellor spoke to the audience from the heart of the soul.
Scholz: Putin wants to hold the "global West" responsible for the hunger crisis provoked by Russia
Scholz accused Putin of wanting to blame the West for a hunger crisis that Russia had triggered with the war of aggression: “The hunger crisis that the war he instigated triggers, he then at the same time tries to help those who are supporting Ukraine into the Pushing shoes." The "Putinian narrative" must be refuted, said the Chancellor.
By the "Global West" Putin means his enemies, against whom he wants to ally himself with all other countries.
That's why it's important to approach the countries of the Global South on an equal footing and not drive them into Putin's arms.
Currently, important supply chains are disrupted and Ukraine, considered the “granary of Europe”, is able to export much less wheat.
Not only because Putin is blocking the ports of Odessa and Mariupol: Russia is also suspected of stealing grain from Ukraine.
In an interview with Irme Stetter-Karp, President of the Central Committee of German Catholics, Scholz warned of a global economic and financial crisis with a view to the extensive granting of Chinese loans to poorer countries.
"One of the very, very big ambitions that we are pursuing is to include China, as a country that is issuing many loans in a new way," said Scholz, in order to avoid another major debt crisis.
Scholz' appearance at the Catholic Day in Stuttgart was disturbed by activists
During Scholz' performance, an activist wanted to storm onto the stage.
However, he was prevented from doing so by security forces.
Another activist shouted “bullshit” when the Chancellor spoke about phasing out coal-fired power generation.
Scholz reacted confidently, he experienced it "always from the same people" and it was a "acting performance.
Scholz then received thunderous applause.
Scholz himself left the Protestant Church and took his oath of office without the phrase "So help me God".
The Chancellor thanked the Catholics for their social commitment, especially during the Corona pandemic, but also now at the time of the Ukraine war.
