Due to a collapse of seracs, an "important" rescue operation was launched on the Swiss side of the Grand Combin, a massif that reaches 4,314 meters in height and is located between Valle d'Aosta and the canton of Valais.
Seven helicopters and about forty rescue technicians are operating on the spot.
The collapse occurred around 6.20.
According to the cantonal police "about fifteen mountaineers were involved and there are victims".
"Other climbers who were on the spot - the police specified - were evacuated".
The fall of the seracs occurred at 3,400 meters above sea level, in the area called 'Plateau du Déjeuner ", along the" Voie du Gardien "route. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Sion has opened an investigation.
