The project:

Renovation of a house in Sharon and adding a pool

Space:

300 sq.m.

Tenants:

couple + 3

Architecture, planning and design:

Sara and Nirit Frenkel

This house in Sharon was planned and designed by the architecture office "Sarah and Nirit Frenkel" 18 years ago Through it, the homeowners recently returned to the same office and the same designers and asked them to make a significant facelift to the home. The needs changed, the children grew, and they wanted to innovate and refresh.

"18 years ago, the client and I were pregnant together," says Nirit Frenkel.

"For me it's both weird and exciting to go back to that point and see the baby born from this pregnancy as a teenager who wants her own suite."

This desire, by the way, gave birth to the whole renovation - it all started from a renovation to the attic to make it a suite for the 18-year-old, and from there the momentum was created that eventually led the couple to completely renovate the entire house and even install a pool in the yard.

According to Frenkel "One of the main requests was to maximize the natural lighting in the house and thus increase it visually, in addition to making it change the atmosphere thanks to a different choice of materials. Although the functions remained in place, a new kitchen was designed, the furniture was replaced, "Various, we replaced sanitary ware, windows, showcases, air conditioning systems, wall cladding, flooring and more, with the pool being the only one designed during the renovation process, with the aim of upgrading the outdoor hospitality experience."

Stylistically, says Frenkel, "the couple's demand was to create a warm and pleasant atmosphere, with a light industrial touch. They wanted to maintain the planning qualities of 18 years ago, but adapt them to today's standard."

She said the fact that these were repeat customers and a second round on the same house created a high level of trust between her and the customers which allowed her a lot of professional and creative freedom: "This time they trusted us much more, and gave us a free hand in choices and decisions."

Upon entering the house a celebration of textiles pops up that meets a wooden floor.

An iron sculptural staircase is located in front of the entrance and climbs upwards to the attic.

The staircase is made of light stairs and a white mesh railing, which replaced the built and massive staircase that was there before.

The kitchen and dining area are visible from the entrance to the house.

The kitchen is externally divided into the "warm" part in wood cladding and the other part more "cold and industrial" where bricks and stainless steel are used - an unusual combination.

The wood was chosen in its raw form, including the cladding of the refrigerator and cabinets.

For the island and the pot rack above it, an industrial-looking stainless steel finish was chosen that resembles a restaurant's kitchen.

The kitchen structure allows you to work inside with the view out and enjoy the view.

Also in the kitchen is a unit hanging from stainless steel under which there is a shade of gray.

The dining area is located between the kitchen and living room.

This is a black corner with thin and light chairs.

For it, two dominant lighting fixtures were chosen, combining materials of brass and frosted glass.

The chairs warm the look thanks to the rattan seats.

The window openings and shop windows used to be small, and have now been opened and widened to the maximum to let in the natural light from outside.

Everything that was not necessary in the walls of the shell in terms of construction was eliminated, in order to obscure the maximum between the interior and the exterior.

The living room has a great evening of materials, with fabric sofas, brown leather seats, a metal library designed by CUSTOM MADE by the office, and incorporates family crafts, and of course a large showcase framed in a white painted Belgian profile and barely separating the living room from the pool.

The stairwell in its redesigned version is an element that connects the house.

The white climbs up and the steps treated 360 degrees, do kindness to the natural light and ventilate the house.

Upstairs are two children's rooms.

One for the young white - a room with a wall covered with white bricks at the top and gray wood paneling at the bottom.

On the other side of the room is an iron library that serves as a closet and study area.

In the middle son's room enjoys another black iron library this time, which combines a study corner and a closet unit inspired by barns.

The two boys' rooms share a common bathroom, where a combination of terrazzo tiles with natural shades in the carpentry.

The master bedroom has a sloping ceiling with decorative wooden beams, which give interest to the space.

Here, too, textiles are widely used to warm the atmosphere.

Instead of a closet, there is a white closet corner that increases the space and a Belgian iron door leads to the bathroom, which is designed with a combination of terrazzo and wood.
