A spokesman for the Food and Health Bureau said that even if the outbreak eases slightly, the mutated virus strain of Omicron is highly transmissible and the public should remain vigilant.

The government said that since mid-April, rapid antigen test kits have been provided free of charge to persons aged 60 or above through different elderly service units.

With the gradual relaxation of social distancing measures and the increase in social activities, the Government announced today (27th) that the relevant arrangements will be extended until the end of June to encourage the elderly to conduct rapid tests on their own from time to time and monitor their physical conditions regularly.

Persons aged 60 or above (both members and non-members) can obtain a free test kit in person at the following service units.

Seniors are required to carry documents that can prove their age, such as identification documents, Senior Citizen Card or Leyou Card, for verification purposes.

Five test kits will be provided each time and cannot be collected on behalf of others, and test kits should not be requested repeatedly on the same day.

A spokesman for the Food and Health Bureau said that the Omicron mutant virus strain is highly transmissible. Even if the epidemic situation has eased slightly recently, the public still needs to remain vigilant, especially the elderly are at higher risk of contracting the new coronavirus.

Making good use of test kits to conduct tests from time to time can help identify patients as soon as possible, so as to achieve the goal of "early detection, early isolation, and early treatment", and prevent the elderly from becoming severe or even death once infected.

The spokesman added that there is sufficient supply of test kits and there is no need for seniors to stock up.

If the elderly are not seeking medical treatment, they should avoid going to service units to obtain test kits during peak hours to reduce the risk of infection.
