(CNN Spanish) --
The United States government, through the coordinator of the Summit of the Americas, Kevin O'Reilly, reported this Thursday that it will not invite the government of the questioned president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to the meeting.
The confirmation came during a hearing in the United States Senate, when Republican Senator Marco Rubio asked O'Reilly if Maduro or representatives of his government would be invited, to which O'Reilly replied: “Absolutely not, no. we recognize them as a legitimate government.”

Rubio also asked if Juan Guaidó, whom the United States recognizes as interim president of Venezuela, would be invited, to which O'Reilly replied that the White House has not yet sent an invitation to Guaidó to attend the summit.
CNN has asked the Maduro government for a reaction to O'Reilly's announcement during today's hearing in the United States Senate, but we have not yet received a response.
The Summit of the Americas will be held this year in Los Angeles, California, from June 6-10.
