Damascus-SANA

The theater, since its beginnings in the Greek and Roman eras, relied on poetic texts in writing plays, and this is Homer, the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey.

Also, the book “From Poetic Theatre” by the author Abdel-Fattah Rawas Qala Ji, issued by the Syrian General Book Organization, brought us back to this type of theater by including two poetic plays, “A Love Hymn” and “The Song of the Lonely Traveler”.

The first poetic play talks about the relationship of virgin love that brought together Layla Al-Akhiliya and Tawbah Al-Hamiri in the early days of Islam and how Al-Akhiliya was the ambassador of her people to the kings and rulers, with reference to the unique position of that woman in her poetry, her merits, her boldness in expressing her emotions and her insistence on speaking out with love and meeting the beloved and her lament for him after his death.

As for the play “The Song of the Lonely Traveler” it tells about Layla and Majnun, and it is a second model in dealing with heritage, as the author believes that he did not want its counterpart in our literature and our theater. Towards the world of perfection and the supreme lover.

In the structure of the rhythmic play, the author does not depend on the rhythms of the apparent poetic activation, but rather on the rhythm of the pulse, i.e. the hidden internal rhythms, which are the main component in the prose poem, which is carried by imagination, images, radiant narration, linguistic and dramatic construction, and phrases that are dramatically charged with psychological charges of conscience.

The book is located in 223 pages of large volume. Its author is a writer and theater critic, born in Aleppo. He has more than fifty authors in thought, literature, heritage, translations, poetry and children’s stories, including “The Birth of Light, Theatrical Nights, and The Travel of Transformations.”
