Around the recycling islands in the Würmtal it always looks desolate.

Only in Krailling there don't seem to be any problems.

Würmtal

– The people of Gräfelfinger have numerous options for disposing of their paper.

Nevertheless, containers always overflow.

A large part of the Würmtal knows the problem with unsightly recyclables islands.

The perfect world is only at home in Krailling.

"We have really great citizens," praises Verena Texier-Ast, head of the local environmental agency.

Things look tidy around the recycling islands in the community.

You have no complaints.

Otherwise, the citizens would already get in touch.

Texier-Ast also welcomes this: "You can only make a difference through exchange." If there is rubbish lying around the garbage cans in the community, ravens are usually to blame.

But: "We have a very well-functioning building yard." He regularly takes care of the garbage cans.

Filled up with paper and cardboard

In the other Würmtal communities, the world is not quite as safe as in Krailling.

It is rare for the underground containers on Ruffiniallee in Gräfelfingen to be overwhelmed with paper, says Lydia Brooks, head of the local environmental agency.

But it happens again and again that recycling islands look ugly.

It's no different in Neuried.

"We know the problem.

Sometimes we have it better under control, sometimes worse," says local spokeswoman Inke Franzen.

As soon as the containers are full, people put their rubbish in front of them.

"We don't set up cameras," she says.

But the municipality has already fenced off some containers so that the rubbish would at least not be scattered by the wind.

This is not planned in Gräfelfing.

There, a hedge around the roll containers even worsened the situation.

"That caused people to dump everything there," Brooks said.

"The underfloor containers are better than the mobile containers."

Improvement in Planegg

In Planegg, the situation has improved thanks to a trick.

"Since we got rid of the containers for plastics, it has become less," says Günther Riermeier, who is responsible for the Planegger recycling center.

Plastics can now be disposed of in the community via the yellow sack or at the recycling center.

Nevertheless, Riermeier confirms that Planegg also has to contend with pollution at the recycling islands.

Brooks: "It's difficult to educate the citizens." They would occasionally receive warnings from the community.

Anyone who is caught twice unloading their stuff in front of a container must expect a fine of 2,500 euros.

After all, the Gräfelfingers have four different ways of disposing of their paper and cardboard boxes, for example.

You can order a paper bin and have it emptied regularly. On the paper collection days you can simply put large cardboard boxes in front of your front door and the disposal company will take them away.

"It's a lot more convenient than putting them in front of the container," says Brooks.

And as a last resort, in addition to disposal on the recycling islands, there is also the option of taking the paper to the recycling center.

Brooks cannot understand why people still put the rubbish in front of the containers.

She says: "You don't have to understand everything." Franzen says: "You can only try to appeal that it's your own community."
