Wolfratshausen – With a clear 16:5 majority, the city council decided in its most recent meeting to repeat the ice age at the old raft landing next winter.

This reverses the decision of the culture committee, whose 4:4 stalemate would have meant the end of the open-air event.

Second Mayor Günther Eibl (CSU), who chaired the meeting on behalf of Klaus Heilinglechner, spoke of a difficult decision before the debate.

In view of rising electricity prices and the city's climate protection goals and savings requirements, no "standing order" can be given, but initially only a one-off commitment for the ice age.

dr

Hans Schmidt (Greens) pleaded against a new edition and gave numbers.

"We can no longer afford not to use electricity generation potential and at the same time allow an ice age that consumes approx. 35,000 kWh, i.e. electricity from approx. 10 three- to four-person households per year, as the winters get warmer and warmer," calculated the environmental officer of the City Council before.

Youth officer Jennifer Layton did not follow the recommendation of her group colleague.

Eiszeit is a unique selling point in the region

"The Ice Age is a highlight that proves itself every year and is particularly well received by children and young people," explained the youth officer.

Helmuth Holzheu (citizens' association) agreed and described the Ice Age as a "unique selling point in the region".

Group colleague Dr.

Ulrike Krischke for manageable.

"That's how much is consumed even at small cultural festivals," she said.

Gerlinde Berchtold (SPD), Dr.

Patrick Lechner (FDP), Josef Praller (citizens' association), Claudia Drexl-Weile (CSU) and Dr.

Manfred Fleischer (Wolfratshauser List) also broke a lance for the Ice Age in their speeches.

"You should keep what's going well," said Berchtold.

The "Ice Age opponents" Manfred Menke (SPD) as well as Annette Heinloth and Peter Lobenstein (both Greens) felt unfairly pilloried.

"I would have preferred a different resolution proposal and the examination of alternatives," admitted Heinloth.

Group spokesman Lobenstein doubted whether an expected deficit of around 50,000 euros would be compatible with the city's budget consolidation.

The low-cost alternative, already mentioned by Manfred Menke in the culture committee, of booking times for Wolfratshausen schoolchildren at the Geretsried ice stadium was out of the question for a majority of the city council.

In addition to Menke, Fritz Schneller (SPD), Annette Heinloth, Peter Lobenstein and Dr.

Hans Schmidt (all green) against the ice age.

Cancellation at short notice is possible

Marlene Schretzenmaier, an employee of the cultural office and head of the Ice Age organization, welcomed the decision, also because the refrigeration units had to be ordered from a foreign company this week.

Should the corona incidence figures rise in autumn or should the power supply collapse as a result of war events, a short-term cancellation would be possible due to contractually agreed exit clauses.

However, Schretzenmaier does not expect that.

She is looking forward to the fifth edition of the six-week skating fun.
