New start after Corona: The big band concert of the Freisinger schools took place in front of a sold-out house.

Freising

– After the corona pandemic, it was a “musical fast-breaking” that the Luitpoldhalle experienced on Wednesday evening: After a two-year forced break, the 17th edition of the big band concert of the schools in the Freising district was finally able to take place.

The Lions Club and the city of Freising had invited, the combos from the Dom-Gymnasium, the Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium, the Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule and the Camerloher-Gymnasium were happy to come after a two-year forced break to take part in the benefit concert.

Finally back in the limelight.

Dom and JoHo start things off

So a musical four-course menu was served, which in the first part featured the band from the Dom-Gymnasium under the direction of Michael Schwarz and the formation of the JoHo under the direction of Marian Bögen.

Together they intoned "The Flintstones".

Rock and pop hits followed, such as Kansas' "Carry on Wayward Son" and Europe's "Final Countdown" or Bruno Mars' "Runaway Baby" and "Locked out Heaven".

Applause erupted again and again.

The Blues Brothers classic “Everybody needs somebody to love” really got the audience going.

Anything but run-of-the-mill pieces, more like 007 theme songs like “No time to die”.

Secondary school and Camerloher in sync

The combo from the Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule with director Jürgen Wüst and the formation from the Camerloher-Gymnasium with Gunther Fendler as conductor were responsible for the third and fourth courses.

"We are family" had a symbolic title for the big bands' rendezvous, Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" could not be missing from the menu.

The Camerloher band, who dedicated themselves to the high art of jazz with Dizzy Gillespie's “Woodyn You”, met the highest standards – no wonder.

But there, too, the Blues Brothers had their place with a revue, before the common closing piece was played with "Rolling in the deep".

Four big bands, four courses that were delicious to listen to – the days of starvation were over that evening.

And not only the musicians and the audience were delighted to be able to show their art and enjoy culture: the evening moderated by Florian Kiefer was also a pleasure for those who will benefit from the proceeds of the benefit concert.

And when it comes to the quality of the performances, plenty of donations must have flowed.
