Tropical Storm Agatha has formed to become the first of the 2022 eastern Pacific hurricane season.
Agatha has sustained winds of 45 mph (72 kmph) and is 220 miles (354 km) south-southwest of Puerto Angel, Mexico.
The storm is expected to gradually strengthen, becoming a hurricane on Sunday before making landfall over the southern coast of Mexico on Monday.
Mexico has issued a hurricane watch for the southern coast from Salina Cruz to Punta Maldonado.
"Storm surge could produce coastal flooding near and to the east of where the center passes along the coast in areas of onshore winds," the National Hurricane Center said.
"The storm surge can be accompanied by large and destructive waves."

In addition to storm surge, heavy rains from Agatha will affect parts of southern Mexico between Sunday and Tuesday night.
