A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hussein Arnous discussed the stages that have been completed to conclude a partnership contract with a national company to rehabilitate, operate and invest the three-phase Deir Ali plant, which would support the electrical system by an additional 750 megawatts upon completion of the third phase, and more than 200 megawatts From the first and second stages after their rehabilitation, more than what is currently produced.
Engineer Arnous stressed the need to combine all efforts and exert all available capabilities to overcome difficulties, provide all the necessary facilities, and work in a scientific and technical balanced manner in accordance with the Participation Law to preserve the rights of both parties, reflecting the spirit of working as a single national team whose goal is to put the project into service, which is an important step in the context of implementing the Participatory Law With the national business sector, where the partnership contract for the rehabilitation, operation and investment of Deir Ali station is the first of its kind in accordance with the partnership law No. 5 of 2016.
The interventions focused on the importance of the project as it comes within the government's efforts to increase the generating capacity of power plants in order to meet the increasing needs for domestic and industrial electricity and to bridge part of the gap between supply and demand for electricity.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Electricity, Finance and State for Investment Affairs, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, and a number of general managers in the Ministries of Electricity and Oil and the National Partner.
It is noteworthy that the Participation Law sets the legal framework governing the rehabilitation and development of public sector production facilities and public utilities in order to achieve the state's interest and reduce indebtedness, especially in high-cost projects on the one hand, and the service social dimension on the other.
The partnership law also aims to improve the services provided to citizens and benefit from the capabilities and flexibility of the private sector in the areas of operation, maintenance and marketing, improving efficiency, reducing costs, increasing the speed of project completion and securing more job opportunities.
