Travel for a good cause - "We'll do it"

“The idea of the cycle tour came about at my wife’s palliative care bed.

Simon and I spoke in bed about the trip and about collecting donations for a good cause with the campaign," says Andreas (32) to

It was immediately clear to Simon that he would be part of the trip.

Since he has his own company, he has organized everything so that he can take a sabbatical year.

Two francs travel to Thailand for a good cause - "Now I want to bring Anja home"

There is no exact route.

“We do everything spontaneously and try to stay in hotels as little as possible.

Only if it is necessary due to extreme weather conditions,” explains Andreas.

But there is a concrete plan for the target country – Thailand.

Anja was half-Thai.

“The destination of the trip is the temple in Ayutthaya near Bangkok.

That's where I feel the greatest connection to my wife.

We have been there several times together.

Now I want to take Anja home,” says Andreas.

"We're going to go to the temple and pray, and then I want to scatter her ashes on one of our favorite islands."

"With the help of the bike tour we support the heart project of me and my wife"

With the trip, Andreas and Simon want to support a good cause.

"I started the 'We Are One Supporting Community' with three friends," explains Andreas to

Merkur.de

.

“We are a small group of friends who support existing projects and organizations that are worth supporting.

With the help of the bike tour we support the heart project of me and my wife: Project Wings.

They are committed to humanitarian aid, animal welfare and nature conservation and are currently building the largest recycling village in the world in Sumatra, Indonesia.

A portion of the donations will also go to our pilot project, a school in The Gambia, West Africa, which urgently needs support.”

Thailand trip: heat and cold as a challenge - driving through dangerous areas

Traveling halfway around the world by bike for nine to twelve months will certainly be a challenge – but what will be the biggest?

“Personally, one of the biggest challenges for me is maintaining my weight.

We burn a lot of calories on the bike every day.

With my stature, I have to be extremely careful not to lose too much weight,” reports Andreas.

But he also has respect for extreme cold or heat or extreme weather conditions.

Simon has the greatest respect "that we drive through dangerous regions, or regions where civil wars (can) prevail." Both are generally very positive people.

They are therefore positive and open to the journey.

Two francs travel to Thailand for a good cause - "open and curious"

Simon is particularly looking forward to the trip “that you really learn something new for life”.

After all, you have a lot of time to think on the bike.

"Who takes this time in everyday life?" he asks.

Andreas is particularly looking forward to learning about foreign cultures, tasting local food and experiencing hospitality.

“We are already noticing how open and curious people are when they see us.

We always get help very quickly and are greeted very friendly everywhere.” The 32-year-old is also looking forward to the landscape and to “waking up in the hammock and always having a different environment around you.” Andreas and Simon are currently there in Slovenia.
