The Internet at five schools in Gauting could soon improve significantly.
In its most recent meeting on Tuesday evening, the municipal council decided on a fiber optic connection.
Prerequisite: The state supports the cost-intensive project at the schools.
Gauting – The corona pandemic has shown it clearly and relentlessly: In most cases, the digital infrastructure in Bavarian schools is inadequate, the internet is too bad and the technical resources are lacking.
In Gauting, well equipped in many areas, the internet speed is now set to change.
At the Tuesday meeting, the municipal councils voted on a fiber optic connection for the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium, Paul-Hey-Middle School, Josef-Dosch-Primary School on Ammerseestrasse and at Schulstrasse and Primary School on the Würm in Stockdorf.
The Free State is currently running a funding program for the production of fiber optic connections in public schools.
However, this ends on December 31st, which is why the municipality asked various providers for offers for the five schools.
“We have contacted several.
Unfortunately, we only received an answer from one provider," said Andreas Hecker, the municipality's IT officer.
However, this fulfills the funding and performance requirements, which a planning office checked according to the draft resolution.
The Free State of Bavaria supports fiber optics in public schools with up to 50,000 euros
The funding from the Free State is a maximum of 50,000 euros per school.
The fiber optic connection could be implemented with a net contribution from the municipality of Gauting totaling around 130,000 euros - "and thus the efficiency of the existing digital equipment in the schools could be significantly improved," writes the administration in the template.
According to the municipality, the implementation of the fiber optic connections for the schools will take 60 weeks, which means that the budget funds will not be needed until the end of 2023 or 2024 at the earliest.
In the coming days, the municipality wants to apply for the funding with the offer.
"Damm the topic comes back to the municipal council," said Hecker.
