The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed its rejection of any kind of Turkish military measures in Syria because it constitutes a violation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh announced in a statement today that Iran opposes any kind of Turkish military measures in Syria because it constitutes a violation of its territorial integrity and national sovereignty and will lead to further escalation.
Khatibzadeh said: Iran opposes the use of force and military measures on the territory of other countries, which would complicate the situation and exacerbate crises.
Khatibzadeh called for respecting bilateral agreements between neighboring countries and the outcomes of the Astana process on the crisis in Syria, especially the need to respect Syria's territorial integrity and national sovereignty and to comply with the principle of non-resort to force.
Khatibzadeh added, "Experiences over recent years have proven that the use of military force against countries has not helped to solve problems with them, but will lead to worrisome humanitarian repercussions and complicate matters in the region more."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed his country's readiness to play a role in preventing crises from worsening and confrontations in which unarmed civilians would be victims.
