Local archivist Annemarie Frischhut (82) knows the history of Schlehdorf like the back of her hand: she is in charge of the municipal archive.

Schlehdorf – Annemarie Frischhut, who was born in Schlehdorf and is now 82 years old, is the keeper of the community's history and archive.

"Actually, I had no idea at all about the archive, I just stumbled into it," says Frischhut in an interview with the Tölzer Kurier.

"But I can't say 'no', that was always my weakness," she says and laughs.

Successor to Andreas Führler

The 82-year-old attended secondary school in Weilheim and then did commercial training at Murnau Accident Hospital.

Later she worked in Munich at a patent law firm for industrial property protection in a trademark department.

She also lived partly in the state capital.

"I was with the law firm for 50 years until I was 72," says Frischhut.

“When I was back in Schlehdorf, friends recommended me to the local historian from Unterau, Andreas Führler, without my knowledge.

He was looking for someone to copy his translations of old writings from Old German, so actually a typist,” says the woman from Schlehdorf.

Six weeks later, Führler retired - and Frischhut took over the translation and archiving.

Nothing is digitized

She is now very familiar with the matter and the processes involved in archiving.

This is not done digitally in Schlehdorf, but is done in the classic way using a filing system in the form of hanging folders.

The archive that Frischhut maintains is very extensive.

It includes community issues as well as the history of the monastery village, documents on monument protection, fishing rights, companies, catastrophes, agriculture and associations - to name just a few of the subject areas.

“2013 was a special year for the community.

Because 1250 years earlier, on June 29, 763, Schlehdorf was first mentioned in a document,” explains Frischhut, proudly showing the framed document on the wall.

"On the occasion of the anniversary celebration, Sister Josefa, Dominican Missionary in Schlehdorf Monastery, approached me," reports the 82-year-old.

She needed material to put together a book, which she played a key role in designing as an author.

It is entitled "Schlehdorf - history and stories".

"Its a lot to do"

Sister Palmeria Heigel wrote a chronicle of the monastery village back in 2002.

Both books look at the history of the village and thus also of the people who shaped the village.

There are always inquiries from private individuals about their own family history, says the archivist.

And they can then fall back on an extensive pool that goes back to the founding year 763.

"But there is still a lot to do," emphasizes Frischhut.

“I still have about 8,000 pictures to copy that I took with my cell phone from the index cards in the monastery archives in Benediktbeuern.

1000 are already done.”

Don't waste any thought on the subject of "retirement".

"I'll do this until I'm gone.

It's fun,” says the 82-year-old full of energy and determination.

An unusual commitment and a remarkable personality.
