Repeated criminal fires in the Grand Vaux district in Savigny-sur-Orge: the city “will not back down”

After two nights marked by repeated fires, it is anger and disappointment that drive the inhabitants of the Grand Vaux district in Savigny-sur-Orge (Essonne).

Local garbage cans, boxes but also the local association of bowlers and the House of the project, where the future developments of the district are presented to the residents, were devastated by the flames.

The municipality, which has initiated an urban renewal project, assures that it "will not back down".

The first site targeted, the Project House, was set on fire overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

“I was contacted around 11:30 p.m. when the alarm went off, says the mayor, Alexis Teillet (LR).

Despite the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, the kitchen was badly damaged.

Luckily, the desktops with all the files weren't affected.

“Unacceptable attempts at retaliation and intimidation”

As part of the urban renewal of the district, which will involve the demolition of the commercial slab which is now sadly abandoned, the town hall planned to install the Maison du projet in the former premises of the Post Office.

The next day, during the night of Thursday to Friday, new fires targeted the neighborhood.

This time, it is a wild deposit near a box walled because unsanitary which was set on fire.

Within a few minutes, two garbage cans and the prefabricated bowling association were also set on fire.

After this series of fires, the territorial public establishment Grand-Orly Seine Bièvre filed a complaint.

"The city will also file a complaint," says Alexis Teillet.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the local police station.
