Rehovot police arrested a resident of Rehovot this morning (Saturday) on suspicion of committing a brutal rape of an elderly woman (70) at her home in the city during which he robbed her jewelry and fled.
After receiving a report of the rape incident that took place early in the morning, the police opened an accelerated investigation.
Upon arrival at the scene, the station police escorted the elderly woman to receive medical treatment with numerous bruises on her body and began collecting forensic findings from the scene and means of documentation in the vicinity of the victim's home.
Combining police intelligence, the police were able to identify the suspect in a short period of time - a man in his thirties.
He was then arrested and brought in for questioning.
The police intend to bring the suspect to a hearing in the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court tomorrow with a request to extend his detention in accordance with the needs of the investigation.
The Rehovot police said: "This is a complex investigation that is in its infancy and is conducted with intensity and top priority. In accordance with the policy of the Central District Commander in such investigations, in which a helpless elderly woman is suspected of harming the suspect."
