The head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for Foreign Relations, Metropolitan Hilarion Volokolamsk, rejected yesterday's decision of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Council, which calls for complete independence from the Moscow Patriarchate, as a violation of all ecclesiastical rules.
The Russia Today website quoted Volokolamsk as saying: "The unity between the Russian and Ukrainian churches is preserved and we will continue to strengthen this unity and we will continue to pray for our one Holy Orthodox Church."
Volokolamsk stressed the need to maintain and strengthen the unity between the Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches.
