From the outside, the Wiesseer Spielarena makes a very dilapidated impression.

In order to be able to renovate, the tenant had started a call for donations.

With little resonance.

Now the community is stepping into the breach.

Bad Wiessee

- "The east side is the most hideous," says Sepp Niedermayer and sighs.

The hall on Wilhelminastrasse, in which his games and sports arena is housed, belongs to the municipality of Bad Wiessee.

It was only in spring 2021 that Mayor Robert Kühn extended the lease agreement with Niedermayer until April 2026.

The tenant thus has a longer-term perspective.

But the message at the time was that the municipality would not spend any money on conversions or cosmetic repairs.

Mayor Kühn: Want to honor civic engagement

Now she does.

After Niedermayer's appeal to the population to support the beautification of the arena with energy and financial means only met with limited attention, the municipality agreed to support the renovation with a certain amount, explains the head of the town hall, Kühn.

He does not give an exact amount.

But: "We want to honor the civic commitment." After all, 14 supporters responded to Niedermayer's call and wanted to help the project with their manual work.

And there is another reason why the municipality is now investing in the beautification of the hall and also has the prospect of services from the building yard: The play arena is located in the middle of the municipality's bathing district, which this summer is also celebrating its 100th anniversary as a health resort celebrates.

An ugly facade does not fit into the picture.

Spielarena tenant expects costs of around 25,000 euros

In order to be able to bring the look of his arena into shape, Niedermayer expects costs of around 25,000 euros.

"We plan to provide the north side with new boards - where necessary - and fill in the insulation underneath." The unsightly wooden paneling will then be equipped with profiled sheets, explains the tenant.

On the east side, which currently consists mainly of discolored light panels, most of these are to be replaced.

The fact that the municipality is now financially involved - it can probably be assumed to be in the five-figure range - has "happily surprised him," says Niedermayer.

CSU parliamentary group in the municipal council had initiated financial support

This commitment was initiated by the CSU parliamentary group in the municipal council with its spokesman Florian Sareiter.

In the past, when the existence of the gaming arena was in jeopardy, the CSU had repeatedly pleaded for the offer to be maintained.

"The history is long and has always turned happier," says Sareiter.

That is why he has now approached the community with a request to "set a good example as the lessor" and to promote the renovation.

At the same time, it is hoped to inspire more supporters for the campaign.

Large and small injections of money as well as advice and action from experts are "highly welcome", emphasizes Niedermayer.

More supporters can get in touch

Smaller preparatory work on the gaming arena has already begun.

The tenant hopes to have completed the measures by the end of August despite the currently difficult to calculate material costs and long delivery times - "as a team effort".

Anyone who would like to support the operator of the gaming arena can call 01 78 /4 72 33 51 or transfer a donation directly to Niedermayer's special account at Raiffeisenbank Gmund (IBAN: DE 83 7016 9383 0100 9516 76).
