An American woman shot dead a man who opened fire at a celebrating crowd at a party last Wednesday in the city of Charleston in western Virginia.
According to local police, the woman's quick response saved lives and prevented mass shooting.
The incident comes amid a brutal massacre in Texas in which 21 people, including 19 children, were shot dead, provoking many reactions in the U.S. and around the world, and re-raising the demand to restrict weapons in the country.
The shooter, Dennis Butler, was 37 years old with a criminal record. According to eyewitnesses, he was driving a car in the area where the party took place, where he was told to slow down because children were playing nearby.

He noted that she has no criminal record.
