From June 1, you can travel nationwide with the 9-euro ticket - but only with regional transport.

Routes such as from Nuremberg to Sylt are also possible.

Nuremberg – From June, people throughout Germany will be able to use all regional transport per month with the new 9-euro ticket, for which Söder recently gave his 'OK'.

While some are already expecting massive overloads, others are planning major trips across Germany.

Of course, many think of Sylt - one of the most popular holiday destinations in Germany and rather far away from most big cities.

How exactly does the journey from Nuremberg to Sylt look like, only possible by regional transport and with the 9-euro ticket?

One thing in advance: It can be worthwhile.

The most important questions and answers about the 9-euro ticket.

9 euro ticket: From Nuremberg to Sylt and with a lot of patience

It is almost 900 kilometers by car from Nuremberg to Sylt.

The linear distance between the city in Bavaria and the holiday resort in Schleswig-Holstein is about 633 kilometers.

If you travel the route by train, in the classic way, you need between eight and 14 hours.

The price ranges from 60 euros to 200 euros - depending on the connection, the day of the week and the time of day.

If you take the route with regional transport and use the 9-euro ticket, the costs for the travel connection amount to - of course - 9 euros.

But you are usually on the road longer and can change trains several times.

Example Friday, June 10th: The trips offered are within a time frame of around twelve to 20 hours.

The changes are given between five and eight.

With the 9-euro ticket from Nuremberg to Sylt: sample route

For the example of June 10, the following route would be recommended during the day (the calculation is based on the Deutsche Bahn timetable calculator – subject to change):

From Nuremberg to Sylt with the 9-euro ticket: Sample trip on June 10th

At 9.38 a.m. the regional train (RE) 42 leaves Nuremberg in the direction of Leipzig Hauptbahnhof.

You arrive there shortly before 2 p.m. and board the RE 13, which leaves for Magdeburg at 2:04 p.m.

A little more than 1.5 hours later you are there at the main train station and, after about 20 minutes of waiting, you get on the RE 20 to Uelzen at 4:03 p.m.

You are in Uelzen at 5:46 p.m.

The journey is almost done.

At 18.01 we continue: You take the ME RE 3 to Hamburg, which arrives there about an hour later.

7:22 p.m.: The RE 70 towards Kiel takes about 23 minutes and gets off at 7:46 p.m. in Elmshorn.

The last leg of the journey: At 8:01 p.m., take the RE 6 towards Westerland (Sylt) – shortly after 11:30 a.m. you arrive at the holiday island.

One of the shorter journeys for the Nuremberg – Sylt route with regional transport and the 9-euro ticket in your pocket includes five changes and takes almost 13 hours.

For comparison: According to Google Maps, a car would take between 10 and 13 hours on the same day and at the same departure time – depending of course on the traffic jam situation.

Because of the fuel, however, the trip by car is likely to be significantly more expensive than the trip with the 9-euro ticket.
