When I was elected president, another private joy, accompanied by my wife Michal and myself, was accompanied by the great responsibility that the choice and trust placed on my shoulders: the very fact that we will now be able to live in Jerusalem - a city deeply rooted in our hearts for many years.

Indeed - we won.

And every morning for the past year, which we open together in Jerusalem, also brings with it a certain sense of excitement, one that only life in Jerusalem can provide.

Yehuda Amichai, the poet whose heart and soul were Jerusalem, wrote in one of his poems two lines that sum up well some of my feelings: "Jerusalem is a swing: sometimes I go down into the generations, and sometimes I go up to heaven."

Indeed, such is Jerusalem - a city where the poles, diversity and diversity also manage to merge and give it its uniqueness.

There are no other cities in the whole world like Jerusalem.

A city that is longed for, that is prayed for and about, that is looked up to.

A city she calls a common one - but more than once a hotbed of controversy.

A city that has everything from everything: a spirit of holiness but also a vibrant secular routine, a city whose million inhabitants reflect all sectors of society and its complexity, a city whose name says hello but also knew wars for the most part.

Jerusalem Day symbolizes one of the founding events in the city's experiences.

Since the unification of Jerusalem, it has grown and developed in all its parts - and along with maintaining its sovereignty as the capital of Israel, it guarantees freedom of worship for members of all religions, and no less important - a common life that does not eliminate diversity and tradition and illustrates the power of living together.

On the day of the city's holiday, which is also a national holiday for all of us, we wish Jerusalem that it will preserve its uniqueness and character even in the momentum of renewal and growth it has experienced in recent years.

I am sure that the future that is still true for Jerusalem and its people is as impressive and promising as its rich past.
