Sergio "Checo" Pérez, a Mexican driver for the Red Bull team, won the Monaco Grand Prix this Sunday, which puts him directly into the fight for the Formula 1 championship.

The Mexican had a great race from start to finish, on a circuit that was very complicated due to the heavy rain that hit the track before it started.

His victory is even more significant since "Checo" Pérez had a small setback a day earlier in qualifying, finishing fourth on the starting grid.

Also, according to F1, it is the first race won for "Checo" in 2022.

"Checo" Pérez took just over 1 second from his closest rival, the Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, the Mexican's teammate at Red Bull, completed the podium in third position.

Following these results, Verstappen is still at the top of the Formula 1 drivers' championship with 125 points;

He is followed by Charles Leclerc (today in fourth place in the home GP) with 116 points and "Checo" Pérez with 110, with which he is now directly in the F1 individual fight.

In the constructors' championship, Red Bull is at the top with 195 points, followed by Ferrari with 169 and Mercedes with 120.
