Khartoum - Sana
The head of the Sovereign Council in Sudan, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a decree to lift the state of emergency in the country and release the detainees.
The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) quoted the Transitional Sovereign Council as saying in a statement that the decision to lift the state of emergency came to prepare the atmosphere for holding the national dialogue, noting that a meeting of the Joint Supreme Council for Security Arrangements headed by Al-Burhan reached decisions and proposals to address the challenges of implementing the security arrangements for the Juba Peace Agreement.
Earlier today, the Sudanese Security and Defense Council, headed by Al-Burhan, recommended lifting the state of emergency throughout the country.
In turn, Defense Minister Lieutenant-General Yassin Ibrahim said that the recommendations submitted by the council to Al-Burhan also include the release of all detainees under the emergency law in a way that does not conflict with laws related to state security issues or criminal law.
