Freising

– Which rock stars have not all given their guest performance in the cathedral city as part of the Uferlos Festival: Ten Years After were there, as were Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Johnny Winter too and ELO anyway.

The "Uferlos" won't be there again in 2022, but a rock legend was still there this year: The Sweet - Glam Rock at its finest in Freising.

How long had the Luitpoldhalle been without the booming bass that made your stomach tremble.

The Sweet did it, the glam rock combo that has been on stage for 50 years, but only guitarist Andy Scott survives from the original line-up and is one of the party.

The Sweet know how to win over the audience: Firstly, they greeted the fans with "Guten Abend, Freising!" And secondly, they not only played more recent songs, but also the classics of the band's history - from "Hell Raiser" to over the feel-good song "Teenage Rampage" to the inevitable and thankfully indestructible "Ballroom Blitz".

From the first song people clapped along

The Freisingers appreciated that, clapping along was the order of the day from the very first song.

It didn't matter whether rock fans in t-shirts with Lemmy Kilmister, ACDC or Metallica prints got hold of tickets or whether twenty-somethings with The Sweet shirts gave in to their nostalgic love of music - the joy of The Sweet and glam rock from several decades was the same size.

The fact that a large part of the audience spent the wild and not so wild years with The Sweet was already apparent at the entrance: there was a device that looked like a gumball machine but contained yellow earplugs.

The demand was of course limited.

As it says in the Sweet hit "Love is like Oxygen", it also applies to the followers of the rock history that rock, glam and music is like oxygen: vital.
