In a few days the time will have come: The federal government's tank discount will take effect from June 1st.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck initially warns of a price increase in this regard.
Berlin - Stopping at the gas station is currently extremely painful for the wallet.
Gasoline and diesel have become very expensive due to the Ukraine war and the associated sanctions and energy shortages.
According to the current ADAC evaluation of fuel prices (as of May 27), a liter of Super E10 costs 2.090 euros on average nationwide, and a liter of diesel currently costs 1.994 euros.
The tank discount is intended to reduce the price per liter for diesel by 17 cents and for petrol by 36 cents.
As of June 1, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck has a concern.
Tank discount is expected to lead to a rush to gas stations
The countdown to the tank discount is now running.
Looking ahead to next Wednesday, Robert Habeck believes that fuel prices could certainly rise "if everyone goes to the gas station on June 1".
With this rush to the pumps, the demand would then be much greater "and petrol suddenly becomes an even more valuable commodity and then we lowered the price, but in reality it's going up," Habeck told

.
Duraid El Obeid, chairman of the Federal Association of Independent Gas Stations, has expressed similar fears.
He says: “People will not fill up their cars at the end of May, they will come on June 1st.
During this time, all gas stations need even more fuel.
The run on the gas stations is going to be historic.”
Habeck relies on what is happening in the market and later calms down
Over time, the situation will calm down again when the first rush is over.
According to Habeck, the prices on the market are formed by speculation - triggered above all by "Putin's war".
Addressing consumers, the Federal Minister of Economics says: "Anyone who is angry about the high prices at the gas stations should rightly be angry with Putin, that's where it all comes from."
