Opinion | Jerusalem is big than its parade screen Israel today

2022-05-29T22:55:26.229Z

The attempt to paint Jerusalem as a focus of conflict and controversy suffers from shallowness and narrow-mindedness, and is only beneficial to those who make a living from it • One day a year, one can rejoice in what it is - the fulfillment of an old-new vision

When the radio in my car announced that "preparations for Jerusalem Day were in full swing," I turned up the volume.

"The police are preparing for the flag parade," the announcer continued, reminding me that this important day was turning from a day of joyous celebrations into a day of exhausting and endless political debate.

And not that it is forbidden to talk about the relations between the State of Israel and the Arabs of Israel, or between the west of the city and the east;

But the choice to make this question predict everything on Jerusalem Day is an unfortunate choice.

The attempt to paint Jerusalem exclusively as a focus of conflict and controversy suffers from shallowness and narrow-mindedness, and is useful only to those who make a living from the conflict and controversy.

Jerusalem is first and foremost the fulfillment of an old-new vision, and its liberation is a sign of the independence and ability of the Jewish state.

Jerusalem is not alone.

It finds itself labeled as "controversial" along with the rest of the six-day territories, and there is certainly a connection between the nature of the debate on Jerusalem and the nature of the debate on Judea and Samaria.

I have often spoken to audiences abroad about the burning issues in Judea and Samaria.

I always told them: it does not matter if you are for or against a Jewish settlement, or for or against a Palestinian state;

Never limit your connection to Israel to this question alone.

It is not possible that after 2,000 years of Jewish longing and 150 years of Zionism, the connection between Jews and the Jewish state will arise and fall on the question "To what extent does Israel cope with the complex reality it has developed?"

Those who work with all their might to convince the Jews of the world that the "occupation", and only he, the prism through which to shape the relationship and connection with Israel - are usually self-interested, well-funded factors who do not care much about the Jews of the world or Israel.

Beneath the mantle of concern for human rights and morals, there is a superficiality of thought and spiritual poverty.

And from parable to parable: it would be a mistake to define the connection to Jerusalem and Jerusalem Day through the narrow prism of the flag parade.

Whether you love the parade or dislike it, consider it a festive event or a problematic event, it is impossible for thousands of years of deep Jewish connection to the city - the Yitzhak Yitzchak, the temples, the Hasmoneans and the Great Revolt, until the beginning of the city, the old settlement, the Zionist aliyah From the walls, the fall of the city in 1948 and the liberation in the six days - will amount to an argument about yes-or-not-Nablus-gate. Not that this is not an important question, but to make it predict everything is nonsense.

364 days a year one can talk about the shortcomings and challenges of Jerusalem.

One day a year, on the 28th of Iyar, one can rejoice that it is built, and marvel at the fact that we get to see and fulfill what prophets, poets and poets have dreamed and have dreamed for generations. Happy holiday!
