The flag dances in Jerusalem mark an unsuccessful venture • The great settlement of Jerusalem in the hearts of all Israeli society

Similar to the commemoration of Yitzhak Rabin's Memorial Days, or in contrast, to visits to the "Gush Katif" museum in Nitzan;

Or to mark the days of the disengagement in the education system in the years following its occurrence - even the organized immigration to Jerusalem in what is known as "flag dancing" is the defeat of the aspiration of "state unity of the city."

This is an admission that the celebrations in the city as a whole do not belong and are not of interest to Israeli society as a whole, and are in fact a sector-community party.

Things are written with sorrow.

At the time, Menachem Begin (referring to the demonstrators of "Kikar Malkei Yisrael" who listened to the speech of "Dudu Topaz") said that there were those who knew how to lead their flocks, holding red flags, using buses and trucks from the kibbutzim.

Well, last night Jerusalem was full of those who held blue-and-white flags thanks to buses and minibuses funded (properly, of course) by those belonging to the state-religious education stream: from the studios, pre-military preparatory schools, hesder yeshivot and high school yeshivas.

Jerusalem's sentiment in this sense - as a focus of religious nationalism, burning holiness, living Judaism, part of a cultural war that "others" destroy and threaten, be it Arabs, leftists or jurists to be saved from - is a sectoral story that failed to emerge and become national.

Not even to the story of the Israeli right.

According to all the polls, even those held by Benjamin Netanyahu, the secular right holds two logics in relation to the Arab neighborhoods in the east of the city: at the same time demographic and at the time of security.

No one entered the neighborhoods and would have been happy if he had been informed that it would never become a financial millstone around his neck, which prevents investment, development and the required budget allocation.

At the same time, a thought that gained a strong foothold in the "Wall Guard" - fear that what happened in Gaza after the "disengagement" will happen in Shuafat after leaving it: which prevents the thought of giving up recognition as part of the united capital of Israel.

The contradiction between these two logics actually leads to a useless status quo.

The one who decides to leave - fears that he will be accused by the community that danced with its flags of betrayal and the introduction of terrorism.

And if he decides to encourage budgetary development and prevent the separation option - he will be accused by it of transferring funds to "Zoebiz".

When it comes to Gaza, the State of Israel has no strategy.

He withdrew - and Hamas entered.

From time to time, military operations are launched, which are more than aimed at shaping Hamas' conduct - aimed at shaping Israeli public opinion.

Well, this is Gaza.

But in relation to the capital of Israel - is there a strategy?

Can anyone really point to a continuous and clear direction that the Israeli government's decisions are aimed at?

Do all Israelis even know what Jerusalem is?

Who is in Jerusalem?

According to most public opinion polls, not only high school students, but also adults in Israel are not at all aware that the Arab neighborhoods where the flag dance took place last night are, municipally, part of Jerusalem, not to mention the status of their residents.

On questions like "Do you intend to visit them", regardless of sector / community - readers will be able to guess the answers themselves.

The flag dances in Jerusalem mark an unsuccessful venture: the great settlement of Jerusalem in the hearts of all Israeli society.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
