There was a crash on the A9 towards Hof on Sunday afternoon.
Several vehicles were involved in a serious accident.
Update from May 29, 6:50 p.m.:
According to the traffic police in Hof, the cause of the serious accident on the A9 was probably a 71-year-old man who was traveling at 220 kilometers per hour.
However, there was slow-moving traffic at the motorway construction site near Münchberg.
The person who caused the accident therefore had to slam on the brakes and pulled into the middle lane.
According to the police, he drove his car into the car in front and pushed a total of nine cars on both sides.
Only then did the man's vehicle come to a standstill.
One of the cars caught fire and had to be put out by the fire department.
A total of 29 people were in the ten cars involved.
According to the police, the accident claimed 17 injuries, including children.
The person who caused the accident and his wife, who was sitting in the back seat, were seriously injured, the others slightly to moderately severe.

The police have announced new information about the serious accident on the A9.
A vehicle drove into another, and both were then thrown into other vehicles, a police spokesman said.
The northbound lane will be closed for a long time.
There is already a long traffic jam.

Bayreuth – On the A9 between Nuremberg and Hof there was a serious traffic accident involving at least ten vehicles on Sunday.
As the police headquarters in Upper Franconia announced, a car caught fire and several people were injured.
Serious accident on the A9: ADAC gives tips on how to behave for drivers
The autobahn towards Berlin is totally blocked.
The ADAC asked motorists to form a lane for rescue and emergency vehicles between Marktschorgast and Münchberg-Süd.
The ADAC traffic jam report says: "Between Bad Berneck/Himmelkron and Münchberg-Süd, accident involving several vehicles, one-way lane closed, create lane for rescue and emergency vehicles, drivers who know the area are asked to drive around the area extensively, until May 29th, 2022 18 :30 p.m.".
The traffic is apparently already backed up for nine kilometers.
