Following MK Michael Bitton's announcement that he will stop voting with the coalition, faction leaders will try to unite their ranks and prevent further defections from the government. To that end, the parties will discuss the burning political issues at stake.
One of the urgent issues is the vote initiated by the Minister of Justice, Gideon Saar, on the issue of extending the validity of the law for the application of criminal law in Judea and Samaria for five years.
The law will be put to a Knesset vote this evening and it is not yet known whether RAAM and Meretz will vote for it and whether the government will have a majority on the issue. The government tried to contact the Likud to support the proposal.
In addition, the parties are expected to discuss sanctions in the education system and the expected rise in fuel prices in the coming days - the same government is determined to provide as much as possible.
Knesset members are expected to arrive at the meetings cautiously and be careful with their language after the public storm that began last week following the leaks that went out to the media from the Likud yeshiva.
During the meeting, MK Miri Regev was recorded in a harsh statement regarding cooperation with the government: "We as a faction decided we were a militant opposition and decided to overthrow the government, so there is no stomach ache for soldiers, battered women or rape cases because everyone understands it is rational." To avoid similar embarrassments, the party decided to shorten the faction's meeting to half an hour, hoping that this would not leave time for MKs to express themselves in controversial statements.
