The city of Munich is getting a new construction officer: The Greens proposed Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer for election on Monday.

Munich – After the anger about city councilor Anna Hanusch, the Greens now have a new construction officer.

The parliamentary group will propose Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer (Greens) for election.

The Greens announced this on Monday.

The election of Rosemarie Hingerl's successor is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29.

Building officer in Munich: Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer was head of the building department in Bremerhaven

Ehbauer studied architecture in Karlsruhe and Zurich with a focus on urban planning and completed her studies in 2004 with a doctorate.

After working as a consultant for ecological urban and building construction planning, she took over the management of the building department of Bremerhaven in 2014 and was also a full-time member of the municipal council in this function.

"With its diverse tasks in public space, the building department is formative for our city," says Mayor Katrin Habenschaden.

The construction and mobility turnaround can only succeed with determined support from the building department - this is of essential importance for achieving the city's goals in the areas of climate neutrality and species protection.

"We are therefore pleased to be able to propose Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer, an outstanding expert for questions of ecological building and urban planning, who has already proven her skills in managerial positions."

Munich building department: Election of Green City Councilor Anna Hanusch failed because of the government of Upper Bavaria

Previously, the election of Green City Councilor Anna Hanusch for the election of the construction officer had failed because the government of Upper Bavaria had denied the then parliamentary group leader the professional qualifications.

The Greens then advertised the position, Ehbauer had to face an internal selection process and ultimately prevailed against four competitors.

"Urban construction activity in Munich is facing major challenges: Housing construction, the school construction program, the implementation of the traffic turnaround and the redesign of public space are just a few of the major projects that will have to be tackled consistently in the next few years," says the new parliamentary group leader Mona Fuchs.

Ehbauer would offer the guarantee that these tasks can also be mastered in terms of sustainability and climate protection.

"She is also committed to a participatory management style and will also set new standards in this area."
