Iranian media recently reported that an Iranian diplomatic delegation would leave for Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season to facilitate Iranian pilgrimage to the holy sites of Islam in Mecca and al-Madinah.
This year the season falls between July 7 and 12.
Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Hussein Amir 'Abd al-Lahian said on Saturday that the delegation represents the Foreign Ministry and its goal is to facilitate the pilgrimage this year.
According to him, the consular department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send out a special delegation to act on the matter.
The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed hope that with the support of senior Saudi officials, the Hajj will be conducted quietly this year.
This is a further warming of relations after the fifth round between Iranian and Saudi representatives in Baghdad took place last April.
As you may recall, the two countries severed ties during 2017 following the execution of a Shiite religious leader in Saudi Arabia and the war against the Houthis in Yemen.
Following the fifth round, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Khajimi said Riyadh and Tehran were close to understanding.
Iranian media even reported that a draft had been drafted to renew relations and reopen the missions.
Among the topics on the agenda: pilgrimage, the Shiite minority in Saudi Arabia, the war in Yemen and more.
