There was a crash on the A9 towards Hof on Sunday afternoon.

Several vehicles were involved in a serious accident.

Update from May 30, 10:30 a.m .:

An expert confirmed the suspicion that the 71-person who caused the accident was traveling at at least 200 km/h.

This was confirmed by a police spokesman.

However, he did not want to confirm media reports that the man from Saxony was traveling at 220 km/h.

In the accident, the guilty driver drove into the car of a 40-year-old who was driving ahead on Autobahn 9 in the direction of Berlin.

The two accident cars then collided with eight other vehicles.

The person who caused the accident and his wife were seriously injured, the others involved, including several children, mostly suffered only minor injuries.

A car caught fire, but the occupants were able to save themselves.

According to the traffic police in Hof, the cause of the serious accident on the A9 was probably a 71-year-old man who was traveling at 220 kilometers per hour.

However, there was slow-moving traffic at the motorway construction site near Münchberg.

The person who caused the accident therefore had to slam on the brakes and pulled into the middle lane.

There, according to the police, he drove his car into the car in front and pushed away a total of nine cars on both sides.

Only then did the man's vehicle come to a standstill.

One of the cars caught fire and had to be put out by the fire department.

A total of 29 people were in the ten cars involved.

According to the police, the accident claimed 17 injuries, including children.

The person who caused the accident and his wife, who was sitting in the back seat, were seriously injured, the others slightly to moderately severe.
