Tipping on vacation can really be a nuisance in some travel destinations.
Because the fee is not welcome everywhere.
In Germany and many other countries, it is customary to tip when the service is good in restaurants or other pubs.
The amount can vary depending on the location: In Germany, for example, a tip of around ten percent is usually given.
In the USA, on the other hand, you should add another 15 to 20 percent to the bill - here the waitresses depend on the additional income because the income is very low.
But there is also the other extreme - namely countries in which the fee is viewed with eagle eyes and this gesture tends to make oneself unpopular as a tourist.
Don't tip in Japan - even less in China
Especially in Japan, you should be careful with tipping - unless you want to mess with the hosts.
Here
the small change is perceived as an insult , as reported by
Business Insider
, among others
.
After all, good service is a matter of course for the Japanese.
However, it is not forbidden on the island – unlike in China.
Service staff in bars and restaurants
are not allowed to accept tips here
.
So tourists only pay what is actually on the bill.
Tipping is customary in many countries, but not the norm.

Tipping when travelling: it is not a must here, but is still appreciated
According to
Bild.de
, tipping is also unusual in countries such as Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, Estonia, Luxembourg, Iceland, Switzerland or the Netherlands.
Nevertheless, waiters are happy about the small surcharge - so it's not a no-go to put something more on the table.
