The latest security report for Weilheim and the surrounding area shows an all-round positive development: the number of registered crimes in the Weilheim police station fell in 2021 to the lowest value in the last 15 years.

Traffic accidents also fell significantly.

Weilheim

– The fact that living in the Weilheim area is as safe as hardly anywhere else in the world is almost a standard sentence when the Weilheim Police Inspectorate (PI) presents its annual safety report.

And this statement applies more than ever to the past year.

In 2021, a total of 1,790 criminal offenses were registered in the service area of the PI – which, in addition to the district town, also includes the municipalities of Eberfing, Eglfing, Huglfing, Oberhausen, Pähl, Peißenberg, Polling, Wessobrunn, Wielenbach and Raisting.

That's 326 fewer than the year before, a drop of 15.4 percent.

Crime is thus at “the lowest level in the last 15 years,” says Harald Bauer, head of the PI.

And: Almost 70 percent of these 1790 acts could be cleared up.

The number of serious burglaries has been halved

The decline in thefts is particularly striking: the cases of serious theft have practically halved compared to the previous year (from 196 to 97), as has the number of burglaries already included (from 10 to 5).

But the numbers also fell significantly in all other crime groups.

In the case of narcotics crime alone (a decrease from 202 to 169 cases was registered) "the numbers are a bit deceptive," Bauer concedes when asked by the local newspaper.

It was "still felt to be very important" on site.

How many crimes relating to drugs are actually recorded depends, of course, heavily on the deployment of staff.

All in all, 938 suspects were identified last year, 723 of whom were male.

The police put the proportion of non-Germans among the 938 suspects at 280, or 29.9 percent.

The decline is probably not just due to the pandemic

The fact that the number of crimes in the Weilheim area – which was almost always well over 2100 in previous years – fell so sharply is certainly partly due to the pandemic.

But "it's hard to say whether it's just because of that," says PI boss Bauer.

While a decline of almost ten percent was recorded across Bavaria, it is still more than 15 percent in the district of the Weilheim police station.

Significantly fewer accidents with serious injuries

The decline in traffic accidents is also less massive, but still clear: in 2021, the officials at the Weilheim police station recorded 1,383 accidents, 53 fewer than in the previous year (where the numbers had already fallen sharply due to the corona).

Here, too, a new low has been reached, at least for the past twelve years.

Road accidents involving personal injury fell by 19.2 percent, from 255 in 2020 to 206 last year.

In these 206 accidents, 53 (99 in the previous year) people were seriously injured and 213 (239) were slightly injured.

“It is very gratifying that there were no traffic deaths in our area in 2021,” says Bauer: “Last year three people lost their lives.” Alcohol was the cause of 26 accidents last year (2020 there were 25).

The number of accidents rose by almost twelve percent,
