The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that it has authorized the use of PTKM1R smart anti-tank mines during a special military operation in Ukraine.
The Russia Today website quoted a ministry statement as saying: “The mines were used for the first time in the Ukrainian province of Kyiv,” pointing out that they entered service in the Russian ground forces in 2020.
In turn, a spokesman for the Russian company (Rosoboronexport), which specializes in exporting weapons, said: The mine is manually planted at a distance of between 5 and 50 meters from a possible trajectory for tanks and other armored vehicles, then it is camouflaged and the target is chosen based on the reading of earthquake sensors, the sound of the engine and other things. Specifications The sensors survey the ground at a distance of 250 meters from the place of laying mines.
It is noteworthy that the (PTKM1R) mine is an explosive container equipped with acoustic sensors affected by earthquakes, and the head of the mine is equipped with infrared and radar sensors.
