2022-06-01T08:39:25.389Z

NEW - Already produced at 1.9 million units in 13 years, the most compact SUV from the propeller-driven firm will give way to a more advanced third generation, even offering a 100% electric version.

Until now at BMW, in the family of SUVs, only the X3 offered all types of engines, from gasoline and diesel to 100% electric through the rechargeable hybrid.

From next October, the third generation of the X1, the entry vehicle into the Munich firm's SUV range, will follow the same path as its big brother.

Depending on their needs, motorists will be able to choose between a large sample of models combining front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, combustion engine, 48 V mild hybridization, plug-in hybrid and even 100% electric.

This third generation of the X1 can pass for a reduced X3.

As it adopts the latest codes in force within the manufacturer's style office, in particular a hypertrophied grille and more elaborate curves, the X1 becomes more imposing.

It lengthens by 53 mm to reach 4.50 m, widens by 24 mm (1.84 m) and rises by 44 mm (1.64 m).

It sits on a 22mm longer wheelbase, to the benefit of rear passenger legroom.

As an option, BMW will offer a sliding rear bench seat over an amplitude of 130 mm, except for the electrified versions.

In the best case, the trunk volume will reach 540 liters.

With the rear bench retracted, it will be able to reach 1,600 litres.

It will be amputated by 50 l with the rechargeable hybrid and 100% electric versions.

A 100% electric version

The latter, four-wheel drive, will be powered by two motors, one per axle.

The total power is 313 hp and the torque 494 Nm. The manufacturer announces a range of between 438 and 413 km thanks to a 64.7 kWh battery, depending on the tire and equipment.

BMW has provided that the battery can be recharged in 22 kW (charger optional) in alternating current and up to 130 kw in direct current.

On a fast terminal, it will thus be possible to go from 10 to 80% battery charge in 29 minutes.

While 100 km/h will be reached in 5.7 seconds, the top speed will be limited to 180 km/h.

This version, which will be recognized by its blue BMWi decorations on the bodywork, will be launched next November, at the same time as the two plug-in hybrid versions, xDrive 25e and xDrive 30e shared with the 2 Series Active Tourer.

In both cases, the thermal engine is the 3-cylinder 1.5 liter which delivers 136 or 150 hp.

It is associated respectively with a 109 hp or 177 hp electric motor to display a combined power of 245 or 326 hp.

Thanks to its 14.2 kWh battery which allows you to flirt with the 90 km of electric range, these models claim a standardized consumption of 0.8 l/100 km, which is equivalent to CO2 emissions of 17 g. /km.

In the range of internal combustion engines, the X1 will offer the entry-level choice between the two 136 hp sDrive 18i gasoline traction versions or the 150 hp sDrive 18d.

At the upper level, there will be two 48 V light hybridization engines with a 19 hp electric motor.

The X1 xDrive23i has a power of 218 hp, the xDrive23d 211 hp.

Their consumption is respectively 6.5 l/100 km (146 g/km) and 4.8 l/100 km (125 g/km).

All models, except the electric version, have the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The van's dashboard

From the latest Series 2 Active Tourer minivan, the X1 is not content to just take over its UKL platform.

It inherits the floating center console between the two front seats and the dashboard with the double digital tablet integrating the 10.25-inch screen for the instrumentation and the 10.7-inch screen for the information system. infotainment.

At the same time, the X1 has access to the latest in electronic driving assistance, bringing us a little closer to autonomous driving.

The rise in range of the X1 is confirmed with the increase in prices.

The sDrive18i access version is billed at 42,750 euros in the First Edition version, which represents an increase of almost 10,000 euros.

The price of the X1 xDrive 23i starts at 55,460 euros.

As for that of the iX1 xDrive30, it has not yet been fixed.
