An investor wants to build a retail park with a discounter and gas station on the B304 in Grasbrunn.

Neither local councilors nor citizens are enthusiastic about the project.

Grasbrunn - An investor wants to build a retail park in Grasbrunn, in today's Bannwald on the B 304: discounter, fast-food restaurant, gas station, drugstore.

When he presented the project to the municipal council, he received a lot of opposition – including from citizens.

Well over 100 people from Grasbrunn attended the meeting, but according to the rules of procedure they were not allowed to speak.

Nevertheless, they made their displeasure clear.

With loud laughter, grumbling and applause.

"This investor came to me six years ago with the idea of a retail park on the B 304," explained Mayor Klaus Korneder (SPD).

Like every applicant, he also pointed out the requirements of the municipality to Johann Schöb from "DS Kapital" in Kempten: traffic management, the Bannwald problem, environmental protection and noise protection.

"Most of the time, nothing more comes from the investors," says Korneder.

According to Schöb, however, he has developed solutions that he wanted to present publicly for the first time at the meeting.

"But there is no official application," emphasized Korneder.

"Of course we will plant a replacement for the protective forest"

Investor Schöb submitted a traffic report.

"They first examined the junction on the A 99 as access to the retail park, but that was not possible," said Schön.

Then the crossing of the B 304 with the Waldbrunner Straße was examined.

According to this, traffic should turn in two lanes from the main road onto Waldbrunner Strasse, so the crossing should be defuse.

Schöb: “Twice the number of vehicles can turn there, so the intersection is green for us.”

Once you have turned there, customers will find a 35,000 square meter retail park.

"According to our reports, there are no negative effects on the previous retail trade in the village with the full-range discounter," said Schöb.

In addition, one builds in block construction, the advantage: the residents therefore hear no noise from the B 304 or from the cars approaching the retail park.

"And of course we will plant replacement trees for the protective forest," says Schöb.

Meanwhile, Korneder doubts whether there is actually a need for a discounter in town.

And otherwise he was critical of the plans.

"Personally, I don't think much of a fast-food restaurant in Grasbrunn, and I also see a gas station as critical." Max Walleitner (Greens) also positioned himself clearly against the project: "We will never agree to deforestation of the protected forest reserve." Both the Greens and the Federal Nature Conservation Union rejected the resealing of more than 20,000 square meters. According to Walleitner, a gas station means enormous CO2 emissions, as do the many cars.

For Ursula Schmidt (SPD), the traffic situation is still unclear: "We would build the center primarily for foreigners - that doesn't make sense to me."

For the municipal councils, however, too many aspects were unclear - and the citizens also made their negative attitude clear, even if only nonverbally.

At the request of Hannes Bussjäger (FW), a public information event on the planned specialist market should therefore quickly take place so that citizens can also officially express their opinion.
