For the first time: Large private companies are required to publish the Gender Pay Gap Report • Employees will be divided into groups where men and women perform similar jobs • How will it work?

Large private companies in the economy are required for the first time to publish the report on the wage gaps that exist between men and women.

Reporting companies are companies that employ more than 518 people.

The companies will have to produce two reports, public and annual, each year, detailing the wage gaps in the workplace between men and women, as well as notifying employees about the wage gaps in the group to which they belong. This is in accordance with Amendment No. 6 to August 2020. The bill is initiated by MK Etty Atia.

How will it work?

Each company that employs more than 518 workers will divide the workers into homogeneous groups - by ranks, by professions and the like.

These are groups in which workers, men and women, perform similar jobs that can be compared between wage levels.

Employees will be notified by the employer which group they belong to, what are the gender pay gaps in that group and what is the average wage level in the group.

I work for a large company.

Will my salary be exposed to the public from now on?

No.

The public report to be published by the company will state the gender pay gaps in each group in percentages, without explicitly stating the level of the salary. For example, everyone will be able to see the gender pay gaps in percent at Check Point.

Where will the report be published?

According to the law, the report will be published to the public, but it is not stated where the obligation to publish it is, but it is written "including on the company's website".

Will there be enforcement against those who do not advertise?

This is a legal obligation.

At present, however, there will be no enforcement - which casts some doubt on companies' compliance with the new law requirement.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the Ministry of Economy and Industry is considering how the new requirement can still be enforced, and among other things is considering choosing a particular branch of companies and asking them to submit their internal reports to the ministry. H. to the public, in which the names of the companies that have not yet published the report.

Will the publication of the reports cause companies to correct wage discrimination?

Not necessarily.

The intention of the legislature was that the very publication would cause many employers to reconsider their steps when it comes to determining wages.

Why are there wage gaps between men and women in Israel?

The wage gap between men and women in Israel is about 30%, and this is due to several reasons: a minority of women in senior management positions, a lower scope of work and women demanding lower wages than men in job interviews.
