(CNN Spanish) ––
The Fuego volcano, located about 44 kilometers southwest of Guatemala City, recorded explosions that caused "abundant ash" this Tuesday, reported the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred).
The entity indicated that the ashes spread to a distance of up to 40 kilometers from the crater.
The explosions were "weak and moderate", in addition to generating gas columns, added the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) in a bulletin.
The institute added that "weak and moderate avalanches were recorded in the contour of the crater and in the direction of the Ceniza, Taniluyá, Santa Teresa, Honda and Las Lajas ravines."
Last March, Conred confirmed that the Fuego volcano had erupted after launching pyroclastic flows over the area known as the Ceniza ravine.
The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology said the volcano, one of the most active in Guatemala, had begun a Strombolian eruption.
Therefore, surveillance was maintained in the area.
And four years ago, in June 2018, the Fuego volcano had a prolonged eruption, with columns of ash and pyroclastic flows that caused the death of dozens of people and the displacement of thousands, with more than a million affected.
