Professor Robert Dosay, Togo's foreign minister, surprised the participants in the reception for "Africa Day" last night (Tuesday), when at the end of his speech he burst onto the stage singing "Shma Yisrael".

"I'm not a singer, but I'll end my remarks with a song," Dosey said and indeed burst into song, to the surprise of those present.

Dossey had recently met the Israeli singer of Togolese descent, Stefan Lager.

The event took place at the Nigerian Ambassador to Israel, with the participation of dozens of ambassadors and diplomats from African countries serving in Israel.

Dossay, who is a big supporter of Israel, arrived in Israel on Friday and is expected to meet Foreign Minister Yair Lapid today.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Embassy in France, in cooperation with the branch of the Jewish-American Committee (AJC) in the country, held the "Africa-Israel: Challenges and Opportunities" conference yesterday.

The conference took place as part of the warming of relations between Israel and African countries in recent years: normalization of relations with Chad, Sudan, and Morocco, the opening of an embassy in Kigali, and Israel's return to African unification as an observant country.

The conference was attended by past and present ministers, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, former Foreign Minister of Mali and Madagascar, Israeli and African ambassadors and diplomats, including Deputy Director General of the Africa Division, Sharon Bar-Li, Israeli Ambassador to Senegal, Ben Burgel, former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Lankri and Senegalese ambassador to France, diplomats from Egypt, Morocco and Ghana, academics, and African and Israeli businessmen.

At the conference, Lapid reiterated Netanyahu's slogan and said that "Israel is returning to Africa. This is not a slogan, but a diplomatic, economic and social reality. As part of our commitment to Africa, where Israel reunites with Africa. "Food security for millions, we fight terrorism together, and we will cooperate in the high-tech fields in order to create opportunities for millions of Israelis and Africans together."
