With an information stand at Rock im Park, the Nuremberg association "Bluepingu" wants to promote more sustainability among festival visitors.

Nuremberg – At first, Doanh, Jens, Luisa and Mathilde were a bit surprised about Rock im Park's request.

"We were really skeptical at the beginning." After all, Rock im Park wasn't exactly known as a pioneer of ecological festival culture.

Instead, the festival classic would have made negative headlines in the past with garbage problems, say the members of the Nuremberg association Bluepingu.

The club is committed to promoting social and ecological change in addition to promoting environmental protection and nature conservation.

After a short period of reflection, the environmental association decided to venture into the proverbial lion's den.

"We now want to help with an information stand so that Rock im Park actually becomes more sustainable," says Doanh, adjusting the reflective aviator sunglasses on his nose.

While the bands are banging their keys and drums on stage, the members of the Bluepingu association want to use the power of conviction to encourage festival participants to think differently.

"We want to make it clear to the visitors that you can't just ruin everything here on the premises at the dozen pond in a party frenzy," says Luisa and Mathilde nods resolutely.

"Otherwise, Rock im Park may simply no longer exist here in the heart of the city of Nuremberg in the future," the two activists for more environmental awareness paint the possible consequences on the wall.

The association already has concrete ideas on how to get visitors excited about more sustainability, for example through deposit systems.

"You have to take more deposit money for the beverage cups," Doanh is sure.

The organizers themselves also announced that they would make the festival “greener”.

They want to make five percent less waste this year, and instead of the usual Dixi toilets there are eco-alternatives.

Nuremberg environmental association wants to contribute concrete ideas

However, the inquiry from the festival organizers about the participation of Bluepingu this year only arrived at the Nuremberg environmental association at very short notice, around two weeks ago.

"Hopefully we'll have more time for preparation next year and can perhaps contribute our ideas in a very concrete way," Jens would be happy to say.

Speaking of which: the entire Bluegpingu festival crew is also looking forward to the great festival days.

"We're looking forward to the music," say Doanh, Jens, Luisa and Mathilde in unison.

The line-up of the festival is fixed, you can find the timetable here.
