This Thursday, June 2, the first results of Parcoursup will reach high school students, a deadline dreaded by many of them, often well

The pressure is mounting.

This Thursday, June 2 from 7 p.m., 936,000 final year students will discover on the Parcoursup site the first responses from higher education establishments to their orientation wishes.

If we are to believe the gradual rise of the keyword #Parcoursup on social networks since the beginning of the week, and the stolen exchanges at the end of high schools, this Thursday, June 2 is therefore a great moment of stress for future students, much more powerful than waiting for the baccalaureate results on Tuesday July 5th.

The ferry in the background?

With the reform of the general and technological baccalaureate imposed by the former Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer, the baccalaureate is no longer played on the final exams in June: 40% of the mark is provided by the continuous assessment, the other 60% coming from specialty tests scheduled during the year (this year in mid-May instead of March, due to Covid), and the last two tests in June: philosophy, and the great oral.

Many high school students therefore have a fairly precise idea of their chances of passing the baccalaureate – the results for early July have lost their "cleaver" side, except for students whose continuous assessment scores are a little too fair.

For the teachers interviewed, the expectation of Parcoursup's responses, added to that generated by the implementation of this new baccalaureate, has contrasting effects on the students: "They are stressed throughout high school, underlines this teacher from SES near of Besançon, and it starts from the second with the strategic choice of specialties, Parcoursup is just the peak of stress of their high school years”.

Especially since Parcoursup is added for some students to other tests, such as the ECE (evaluations of experimental skills) in SVT specialism, or the last final tests, for professional high school students.

Or even the substitution tests for pupils who would have had the bad idea of skipping the assessments during the year of the disciplines taken into account in the continuous assessment... In short,

93% of high school students will have a proposal

A diffuse stress therefore, which will undoubtedly increase Thursday at the end of the day, as every year.

And this even if the main teachers of the final year do not miss an opportunity to remind their future-ex-students that they should above all not panic if they only have answers “pending” on the evening of June 2.

“I make sure to remain phlegmatic in the face of this deadline, explains Aurélie, German teacher and head teacher in Val-d'Oise.

My students don't seem that stressed to me, maybe I had something to do with it.

Admittedly, it's a good class, and they know that they will all have a place, but “Parcoursup's anxiety” has a self-fulfilling prophecy side: the more we talk about it, the more they feel it.

If we explain to them that it's normal to be on the waiting list for a few days, they worry a lot less”.

Well convinced of the importance of supporting students in this moment, despite everything, very important for their future, some teachers even offer "permanent hours" in their high school on Thursday at the end of the day, to wait with their students for the first verdicts from the platform. - this is the case, for example, at Camille Claudel high school in Vauréal, in Val-d'Oise.

The teachers who will hold these assistance cells, duly equipped with boxes of tissues, will no doubt not fail to remind their high school students of this statistic: in 2021, 93% of high school students, all series combined, had received at least one proposal for admission via the Parcoursup platform - even if it is not always the one they preferred.

For the less fortunate, the additional procedure will open on June 23.

This is a second chance not to be missed because many training courses, including selective ones, "put back into the game" the places that have not found a taker at the end of the main admission phase, the equivalent of the first round of Parcoursup.

Provided you do not get discouraged and do not drag out your choices, many options are still open, until September 16, the closing date of the additional phase.
