Public e-charging stations planned

Public charging stations for e-cars are to be built in Grafrath.

This is the first application that was made by the "Grafrath climate-friendly" initiative in the municipal council.

Grafrath – Now the community wants to talk to the public utility company, which should act as a partner for a small charging station network.

Mayor Markus Kennerknecht (independent) said it had to be checked whether it made sense for the community to get involved or whether to look for a partner.

The Stadtwerke are not only electricity suppliers in Grafrath, they also have the necessary experience in Kennerknecht's opinion.

In a second step, locations would then have to be sought.

For Kennerknecht, charging stations at the Bürgerstadl or at the town hall are conceivable.

“On the other hand, I think a location at the train station is difficult.” Drivers would park there in the morning, continue on the S-Bahn and block the column all day.

Karl Ruf (CSU/BV) suggested testing a fast charging station.

"They are becoming more and more popular." The charging station locations also have to be coordinated with the planned mobility station.

This can also be clarified with the municipal works.

The municipal council voted unanimously to contact the public utility company.

The fact that the application for the charging stations was received twice caused irritation: once by a CSU member from the initiative, and secondly by the responsible working group.

Kennerknecht therefore asked for better coordination within the initiative in the future.
