High casualties:
Vladimir Putin's Ukraine war is dragging on.
The attacks are now concentrated on the eastern parts of the country.
The city of Seyerodonetsk could fall and become an important milestone for a possible victory for Putin.
While Russia is said to have kidnapped up to 200,000 children in the Ukraine war, President Volodymyr Zelenskyj commented on the current losses in the war.
Around 100 soldiers are killed defending the country every day, according to the Ukrainian prime minister.
“Up to 100 people die every day in the east of the country.
And a few hundred people - 450, 500 people - are injured every day," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said via video on Thursday at a security conference in Slovakia's capital, Bratislava.
The Ukrainian army only reported its own casualties shortly after the Russian attack on February 24, but not since.
"As of today, 20 percent of our territory is under the control of the occupiers," said the President at a booth in front of the Luxembourg Parliament.
Almost 125,000 square kilometers have been snatched from Ukrainian control.
Russia had invaded a total of 3,620 towns in Ukraine, 1,017 of which had been liberated, Zelensky said.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck expects major disputes over the costs of the war
High costs for Germany:
"We will experience a dramatic increase in heating costs," announced Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck on the ZDF program
Maybrit Illner
.
In view of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, the Green politician expects major social debates in Germany in autumn and winter about the consequential costs.
“Whether the political measures will then be sufficient to maintain social peace and the feeling that things are fair in this country will be the decisive question of the autumn and winter.
I'm not quite sure yet," said Habeck.
In view of the effects of the Ukraine war on Germany, the federal government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) decided a few weeks ago on the 2022 relief package, which is intended to bring support to citizens nationwide.
The 9-euro ticket for bus and train and the tank discount for petrol and diesel started on June 1st.
Other measures include a bonus for Hartz IV, a child bonus and an energy price flat rate of 300 euros.
Due to high inflation, however, the effects of the war will also be felt in other areas in the coming weeks.
