In the citizens' meeting of Markt Schwaben, the market community awarded honorary prizes for the first time.

To two individuals and a group.

There were also 120 slides on the municipality.

Markt Schwaben – For the first time in its history, the market town of Markt Schwaben has awarded a ram.

That's right: a sculpture that looks like a ram.

Based on the ram of the Sempt, a figure from the period between 450 BC and the birth of Christ, which archaeologists once found on a Celtic quadrangular hill near Sempt.

Market Swabia: Individual sculptures

As in these first sentences, Mayor Michael Stolze also built up the suspense and tried to keep it up before he announced at the town hall meeting on Thursday evening in the Unterbräusaal who would receive a ram.

A sculpture and a certificate as a prize from the community for people who get involved.

The municipality awarded it for the first time in the assembly – to three people or groups.

Three individual, unique ram sculptures made of different materials, each sculpture created by an artist from Markt Schwaben: Maria Heller, Bruno Kukla and Hans Wetzl.

Alois Rupprich, who does not live in Markt Schwaben at all, received an honorary award, but has been volunteering there for many years wherever help is needed.

"Alois is always there," thanked Mayor Stolze.

He presented the second ram to Anja Birnkraut, who provided the ideas and impetus for the Schwabener Kunstpfad market.

Stolze praised Birnkraut not only for this, but generally for her commitment to the art scene in Markt Schwaben.

Aries number three is shared by several people: the honorary award was given to all those who have been taking care of refugees from Ukraine who are housed in Markt Schwaben since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression.

Mayor Michael Stolze named Maria Hartzendorf (who was the first to report to the town hall, announced her help and then coordinated it, so Stolze) as representatives of all the volunteers, as well as Judith Seibt, Claudia Stegmüller, Carola Schedl and Alina Sabko.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.

The award winners were selected by a jury, the so-called "Honorary Award Committee": Cornelia Hermansdorfer, Sandra Mayr, former mayor Bernhard Winter, Peter Fleischer, Bruno Kukla and Mayor Michael Stolze.

They had to make a decision from a total of 26 suggestions that had come from the public.

Market Swabia: Jury without politics

In the citizens' meeting, Stolze pointed out that the jury deliberately did not consist of members of the market town council.

Instead, each faction could nominate a person who does not sit in the local parliament - so that it is not a political jury.

In addition to the honorary awards, Mayor Stolze also honored two young athletes for their achievements: Lennart Volkert and Sven Pollert (report to follow).

After the awards, Mayor Michael Stolze did what he had announced to the 80 or so visitors to the citizens’ assembly: He showed 120 slides on work and life, numbers and statistics, plans and projects in Markt Schwaben via beamer.

His wish at the beginning that after the end of the official part, the visitors would please stay for a get-together (the Ostra partnership committee provided for the physical well-being) and look at the exhibition of the Aktivkreis Kunst und Kultur, which was set up in the hall , this wish of the mayor was not entirely fulfilled: the longer his presentation lasted (a good 80 minutes in total), the more people left the hall early.

Markt Schwaben: Report on the community website

Anyone who would like to have a look at the slides and thus all the information in peace can do so immediately on the website www.markt-schwaben.de, where the presentation is posted.

At this point only this overview should be mentioned: Stolze rode through various areas of administration to the financial situation, to construction measures (e.g. new school building, flood protection and canal work) to statistical figures (currently Markt Schwaben has 14,094 inhabitants), the announcement of the Season markets (next date: July 3rd) to the most popular first names among children in Markt Schwaben who were born in 2021: Emilia, Hannah and Mia for girls, Matteo, Noah and Leon for boys.
